► Resistance to compression set
At both high and low temperatures, silicone rubber has resistance to compression set and maintains good elasticity. In rubber sealing ring materials that undergo compression set under heating conditions, the shape recovery is particularly important. The compression set of silicone rubber is stable in the temperature range of -60~250℃. Although the degree of compression set of ordinary synthetic rubber is relatively small in an environment close to room temperature. However, with the change of temperature, the compression set of synthetic rubber will increase significantly.
Usually, silicone rubber needs to be subjected to secondary vulcanization treatment. Especially when manufacturing products with low-pressure compression set, secondary vulcanization is recommended, and the most suitable vulcanizing agent must be selected.
 

► Electrical properties
Silicone rubber has excellent electrical properties. Its outstanding advantages are that the dielectric strength, dielectric loss, voltage resistance, arc resistance, corona resistance, volume resistivity and surface resistivity, power factor and insulation performance are little affected by temperature and frequency changes. In a wide temperature range, the dielectric strength remains basically unchanged; in a large frequency range, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss tangent are almost unchanged, and even immersed in water, the electrical properties change very little. Silicone rubber has high hydrophobicity. When working in a humid environment, its dielectric properties change very little, but it cannot work in an environment with high-pressure steam, otherwise, hydrolysis and depolymerization will occur. Silicone rubber also has very good corona resistance and arc resistance. Its corona resistance life is about 1000 times that of polytetrafluoroethylene; and its arc resistance life is about 20 times that of fluororubber. Silicone rubber is not easy to burn. Even if it burns, the generated silicon dioxide is also insulating. Therefore, it is a stable electrical insulating material with extremely high reliability under harsh temperature environments and full-load working conditions. It is widely used in the electronics and electrical industries. It is suitable for safe and reliable wire and cable sheathing materials.
