Details
► Hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) and nitrile rubber (NBR) are two common thermoplastic rubber materials. In addition to their different physical properties, there are many other differences. In this article, we will introduce the principles of hydrogenated nitrile rubber and nitrile rubber, as well as the differences between the two.
► First, we need to explain the principles of the two. This is because hydrogenated nitrile rubber and nitrile rubber are both chemically modified rubbers, originally from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) is a new material obtained by hydrogenating PVC. Its characteristic is that it contains hydrogen bonds on the molecular chain, which makes it have higher heat resistance and tensile strength, so it has higher temperature stability than pure nitrile rubber. Nitrile rubber (NBR) is a material obtained by alkyd modification of polyethylene. Compared with hydrogenated nitrile rubber, it has better oil resistance and chemical resistance.
► The difference between HNBR and NBR is that hydrogenated nitrile rubber has a wider temperature resistance range than nitrile rubber, and it can withstand higher temperatures, but nitrile rubber has better processing performance and can be modified to improve physical properties. Hydrogenated nitrile rubber is actually hydrogenated raw materials, but nitrile rubber is obtained by alkyd modification. Therefore, the tensile strength of hydrogenated nitrile rubber is relatively much higher than that of nitrile rubber.
► Hydrogenated nitrile rubber also has tensile resistance and thermal stability, while nitrile rubber exhibits good oil resistance and chemical resistance. However, because hydrogenated nitrile rubber and nitrile rubber are both chemically modified rubbers, there are also certain differences in their physical properties, including temperature resistance range, elastic modulus, tensile strength and wear resistance. The heat resistance of hydrogenated nitrile rubber is better than that of nitrile rubber. Its temperature resistance range can reach above 150 ℃, while the temperature resistance range of nitrile rubber can only reach up to 120 ℃. In addition, the tensile strength of hydrogenated nitrile rubber is also higher than that of nitrile rubber. Its tensile strength is between 25-32MPa, while the tensile strength of nitrile rubber is often only 7-8MPa.
► Not only that, hydrogenated nitrile rubber and nitrile rubber also have differences in application areas. Hydrogenated nitrile rubber is usually used in high temperature environments such as automobiles, electronics, hydraulics and instruments, while nitrile rubber is more suitable for petrochemical industries such as lubricants, inks, oily coatings, gasoline and diesel.
