Our Best-Selling AEM Rubber

AEM Compound
Ethylene acrylate rubber (AEM) has good resistance to lubricating oils, but we often see some standards citing reference oils as test oils instead of using actual lubricating oils for testing. Based on the 50% reduction in elongation at break, AEM can be used continuously for 18 months at 120°C and for 6 weeks at 170°C. The heat aging resistance of AEM is much better than that of chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber (CSM) and NBR.

Physical Properties of AEM Rubber

Temperature Resistance:
AEM rubber has an excellent resistance to high temperatures, withstanding continuous exposure to temperatures up to 150°C (302°F) and intermittent exposure up to 175°C (347°F). It also retains its flexibility and performance at low temperatures, typically down to -40°C (-40°F).

Chemical Resistance:
AEM rubber offers good resistance to oils, fuels, and various chemicals, including automotive fluids like engine oil, transmission fluid, and coolant. However, it is not suitable for exposure to strong acids, alkalis, or polar solvents.

Weathering and Ozone Resistance:
AEM rubber has strong resistance to environmental factors such as UV rays, ozone, and oxidation, which can cause other elastomers to degrade over time.

Mechanical Properties:
AEM rubber exhibits good tensile strength, elongation, and compression set resistance. This means it can maintain its shape and integrity under mechanical stress, making it suitable for use in dynamic applications.

Electrical Properties:
AEM rubber has moderate electrical insulating properties, which can be useful in certain applications like wire and cable jackets.

Low Permeability:
AEM rubber has low permeability to gases, which makes it suitable for applications where sealing against gas leakage is essential.

Flammability:
AEM rubber is inherently flame-resistant, meaning it has a low tendency to support combustion.

AEM Rubber Storage Requirements

Temperature: Storage temperature must be between 59°F (15°C) and 100°F (38°C).

Humidity: Relative Humidity (RH) must be less than 75% unless stored in sealed moisture proof bags.

Light: Material must be protected from direct sunlight and/or intense artificial light having U.V. content.

Radiation: All precautions must be taken to block sources of ionizing radiation likely to cause damage.

Ozone: Storage room shall be free of any equipment that may generate ozone (mercury vapor lamps or high voltage electrical equipment) or combustible gases/vapors.

Deformation: Material shall be stored in a strain-free condition, avoiding stress and other causes of deformation.

Dissimilar Materials: Avoid contact with other materials such as liquids or semi-solids (gasoline, grease, acids, disinfectants, cleaning fluids), metals (copper, manganese, iron), and other elastomers.

FAQ

Q: What is AEM rubber?

A: AEM rubbers (Ethylene acrylic elastomers) are synthetic rubbers composed of both ethylene and acrylic monomers. The ethylene imparts good low temperature properties, while the acrylic portion improves the oil resistance. The combination of a saturated backbone with polar side groups also provides good resistance to heat, ozone (weathering), and many chemicals.

Q: What are the main properties of AEM rubber?

A: It has good heat resistance, ozone resistance, and oil resistance, along with decent mechanical properties.

Q: Where is AEM rubber commonly used?

A: Commonly used in automotive components like engine seals, hoses, and gaskets, as well as in industrial applications.

Q: How does AEM rubber perform at high temperatures?

A: It can withstand relatively high temperatures without significant degradation of its properties.

Q: What is the composition of AEM rubber?

A: AEM rubber, also known as ethylene-acrylic elastomer, is a synthetic copolymer made from ethylene, methyl acrylate, and a small amount of a carboxylic acid-containing monomer.

We're well-known as one of the leading aem rubber manufacturers and suppliers in China. If you're going to buy good quality aem rubber, welcome to get more information from our factory.
